The Reunion of the Firecracker Gang

It started just before our puppy’s (Robbie) first birthday.  I realized how our lives had changed since we had adopted him from Foster Pet Outreach.  Of course, he has pulled his share of puppy antics, like chewing on good socks, but he is always happy to see us.  He enjoys a good cuddle and a wild game of ball chasing.  On our walks, neighbors call him by name, including several retirees that I had not met in the previous 15 years.  We appreciate Robbie and know that other people helped him along before he came to us.  There are the wonderful caring people of Foster Pet Outreach, but originally he had come from a family where the owners decided that giving up the litter of puppies was the right thing to do.  Were they wondering if they were happy and ok?  After mulling it over, I decided that I didn’t have anything to loose by asking Foster Pet Outreach for the original owners address.  I just wanted to send a thank you card.  I emailed Brenda Lambert.  She replied (as I figured) that they could not give that information, but (this I did not expect) it might be possible to share information about the people that adopted Robbie’s siblings.  Brenda generously contacted each owner and got permission to share their information. Brenda emailed that she had gotten in touch with all but one sibling and not only did they agree, but they were looking forward to talking to me.  I called the owners and it became clear how much the dogs are alike.  These are people loving dogs and hate to be left alone (at least four crates have been destroyed) and they all have energy to spare!  Everyone wanted to meet.

On Sunday, November 9, the weather was predicted to be cold and cloudy, but no matter what - we would all be meeting at the Morton Dog Park.  Of the five puppies born on July 4, 2007, four would make it to the reunion:  Asher, Bear, Hazelle and Robbie.  From the first greeting of noses, they were off!  Running, chasing, and jumping; they had a wonderful time!  Did they remember each other?  My daughter thought that Asher and Hazelle (who had been fostered together) acted like they might have remembered, but to the rest it didn’t matter.  The families were so friendly and they genuinely care about their dogs. It was nice to compare stories. These are indeed lucky dogs!  The siblings look unique: Hazelle has light brown eyes and nose and the others have darker features.  Hazelle and Asher are smaller.  Robbie and Bear weigh in about 10 pounds heavier, but Robbie is the tallest. Their similarities are still many and in motion as they were, you still had to look twice to see which one was which!  All too quickly, it was time to go.  The reunion was joined by Foster Pet Outreach staff including Brenda Lambert and Laura Nelson.  A very good time was had by all.  (You can see their pictures on Facebook, Labradoodle Siblings group page).  Thank you Foster Pet Outreach! Robbie’s Mom, Laura S.

The adoption of Sandy

Maddie is always ready at the door hoping the next visitor is for her. Her "whip" of a tail is always ready to give a good smack on the back of your legs, or the coffee table cleaned off quickly. Maddie wanted to be a lap dog and sleeping on the bed was her first choice, but after a bit of work she sticks to anyone of her floor comforters neatly arranged in her own way, or the old couch when it's cold outside. Her health is good, but she has to take an aspirin a day to help keep her hips working. Other wise she still loves a good tennis ball, a Frisbee throw in the side yard, and laying in the rocks on a sunny day. A sibling to Myra, Maddie sends her condolences to Brenda on her loss.

Mel is ready to have fun with his new family.

Golden Girl has found a home with Becky and Gary.

Basil (formerly Drake) is doing great and really growing big; he's about to
outgrow his second collar and weighs about 45 pounds now. He keeps busy
by playing frisbee, chewing sticks and chasing leaves. He likes going for
car rides and especially on walks. He likes to go jogging too, and that's a
good thing since he likes to indulge in a little bleu cheese every now and
then. Thanks to the volunteers at FPO for hooking us up with Basil!

Andy and Danielle

We adopted Dixie from FPO in November when she was a 3 month old puppy. She definitely does not lack attention and affection. She is totally house trained and always astonishes us with her intelligence.  She is so much fun to have around our home.  She makes friends with everyone she encounters, especially other dogs. Thanks FPO for our wonderful pet.

Just wanted to let you know that Skye is doing wonderful. She has adjusted here so well! She and my other dog Fozzie are the best of buds. Between regular walks and daily supplements, she has had no problems with her leg. Her need to bark has decreased to a minimum, and she is the cuddliest dog I have ever had! Thank you so much for bringing her into my home.

Darby is so grateful for her wonderful new home.

I just wanted to send a quick note to everyone at FPO, wishing each and everyone of you, a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year!  Larry and I are so happy with Breann (formerly Mariann).  She has given us so much joy!  She has completed another round of obedience training This was more of a train-the-trainer session as Breann was already so smart!  Still, we all enjoyed it and if we can get past some socialization issues we hope to get more involved with agility training this spring.

John and Elaine absolutely adore Maddie (formerly Maudie). She is definitely a daddy's girl!

Adoption of Buckley now Augie by the Michael Olson Family

Foster now Otis

"In January of 2006, I contacted FPO trying to find a pup to help fill the home of my sister and I.  We were blessed with the gift of a little beagle mix by the name of Foster.  We have since changed his name to Otis, and we can't tell you how much joy and comfort he has brought us.  Since that time we have also "rescued" another beagle mix pup whose name is Poppy.  The pictures i have sent are of Otis when he was a pup, thru the time we have had him, as well as his new best friend.  We have had Poppy since March, and he has brought even more love and laughter into the home.   They truly are our kids, and we love them as though they were on two legs, and not four.

I am writing just to let you know how much I appreciate the work that you all do!!!  Any time I hear of a friend or family member who is looking into getting a pet, I always suggest contacting your organization.

Thanks again for all your work.  You all have truly earned your wings!!!

Tracy and Cindy

Proud Mothers of Rescued Pups!!!"
