Pet Passings
If tears could build a stairway, and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of Dudley. In 1997, my husband and I were foster parents. Just days after being fired from my job, and feeling very sorry for myself, I received a call about a dog needing a foster home. Originally found as a astray who had been hit by a car on Rt. 29, Dudley had been returned to FPO twice. The second time was after having been locked in a garage when his family moved to Florida. We took Dudley into our home on a temporary basis, and 12 years later, he was still with us. Dudley lasted through 2 moves and the birth of our son Benjamin. As you can see by his photo, he was very tolerant of an active toddler. Dudley loved to steal food. In one 9 day period, he stole an apple pie, a loaf of bread, a bag of candy, a bag of Fritos, and the remains of our Sunday Dinner. We shared many a laugh over his antics and will miss him dearly. |

This is my little angel Cokies. She was a present to me when I was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 2005, and just 2 years later, was diagnosed with a brain tumor also, only hers was pituitary and caused a horrible disease called Cushing's. Cokies fought the good fight. We tried several different meds and treatments, and 3 weeks ago, she lost her battle. We had to let her go, her suffering was too much to bear. I'll never forget her, she was my pal, my companion, my brain tumor partner. I believe she was an angel sent to take care of me until I was back on my feet and that her job was now done, she's back in Heaven. |
| Katie | 1995 - July 2009 |
Back in 1995 I rescued a pregnant cat from a horrible situation. Gave her safe haven to have her babies, and then made the phone call that would change my life forever….I called FPO asking for help with finding homes for the kittens. (yes I was one of those phone calls) Talked at great length with Laura N. and the rest is history. I named her Katie and every time I moved she went with me. Moved in with some friends in order to go back to college, Katie went along and got to explore the nearby woods. Moved in with a guy along the river, Katie learned how to be a river rat. Had to hurriedly get out of that relationship, Katie was given safe haven by my boss over in Metamora. Got back on my feet and purchased my own home in Canton and Katie was there. She tolerated every single rescued animal that I brought home (both dog and cat). Many of them were nursed back to health and only stayed with us temporarily but many I adopted. Regardless she accepted them all….I think she knew that she had the ‘top spot’ because she had been the first. When I married in 2001 it was to a farmer whose attitude was that animals are outside…..Katie won over that ‘hard headed’ man and lived in our home eight years. I put her out of her misery this past Monday. As I sit here crying for my wonderful friend it heartens me to know that a daughter of hers (one of the kittens I helped bring into this world) is still alive and lives in Dunlap with Doris & Jim Roland. Katie’s stone on her grave reads: “I came, I purred, I conquered”……that pretty much sums it up completely. |

I found him in a Kentucky campground. He was very loving cat. He was also beautiful. He is missed and will always have a place in our hearts. |

Bandit was the best cat to us. After my grandmother passed away like 8 years ago, we took Bandit into our home and it was the best thing we ever did. It broke my heart when he passed, but I know he's not in any more pain. R.I.P. Bandit. We will always love you. |
| Katie | March 23, 2009 |
With a very heavy heart and great sadness, I am writing to let you know that my beloved Katie (beagle) passed away on March 23rd. She had been sick for a short time with lymphoma. Katie was a special girl. She was so sweet and loved everyone and all dogs. Katie followed me everywhere. I miss her terribly and keep thinking she will come running in from the garden. If only she could. |

1995-2008 |
Ginger was best described as "well mixed Australian shepherd". While I didn't think she was a very pretty dog (her legs were a little short for her body size and it made her look a bit "dumpy") everyone who met her remarked about her gorgeous coloring. Even more than that, Ginger had "inner beauty". She was a faithful old woofer. |
| Misty | 1995 -11/2/2008 |
Our hearts grieve at the passing of Misty. She was found tied spread eagle to a tree deep in the woods, presumably part of a Satanic ritual, or at least some other horribly cruel procedure. We brought Misty into our care, and cured her physically, but her soul was never the same. A forever home couldn't be found willing to give her more love than we could, so Misty was given Sanctuary Care in the best cat foster home. Misty enjoyed 13 years of care, catnip and cuddles until her quiet passing in Bev's loving arms. We hope Misty is at last at peace. |

Sissy was the beloved Norwich Terrier of Barbara . Sissy died suddenly at only five years old. Barbara, Sissy on the right, and housemate, Tulip, another Norwich, worked tirelessly for a variety of animal rights, animal protection, and animal adoption groups. |

We adopted our beloved Reggie from Foster Pet Outreach many years ago. He was fostered by Lynne M. She taught him lots of things before we got him and she gave us lots of information so that our experience would be positive. I feel like we owe FPO a debt of gratitude for allowing us to have him. We fell honored to have been allowed to be his mommy and daddy. He was the light of our lives. We miss him so. He had such a great sense of humor and taught us so much about absolute devotion. |

Sherue was our first cat, and launched my adoration of yellow/white male kitties! |

1991-2008 |
She was our first foster dog, tossed from a car in May of 1992. I remember picking her up from Heartland Dog Training Center. I didn't know how I was "supposed" to feel about this creature that was only intended to be with us for a short time. Sixteen years later, I know I am heartbroken than she is gone. |

"...my loss is so great; Nikita and I mourn...I don't think Myra was my dog; I think I was Myra's person! That's OK, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way; we were meant for each other. Brenda |

1997-2007 |
He was a very good boy and liked to talk to us. |
| Duke | November 2010 |
Duke was diagnosed just two short weeks ago with kidney failure and went downhill rapidly. The poor thing would eat nothing and was starved – we tried everything to get him to eat something . We started him on fluid therapy but nothing worked. He had a seizure last night and never really came back from it. He spent the night at the emergency animal hospital. We picked him up this morning and brought him back home until we could get in at the vet this afternoon. He spent his last hours in his back yard, laying in the sun as he loved to do. My heart is broken, as I am sure you know. Thank you for bringing the gift of Duke into our lives. He was an uncommon dog in my opinion, and a joy in my life. |

1998-2010 |
I adopted Josi in 1999 from FPO when she was about a year old. I’m sorry to say that my Josi girl is now gone. Josi developed canine cushings disease and lived nearly a year longer than we thought she would. Towards the end, she began losing control of her bodily functions and I didn’t want her to get worse or suffer through this awful disease any longer. Josi was 12 years old. The years with her have gone so quickly. She was a wonderful and loving little girl and I loved her dearly. She’s been gone since May 11, 2010, but I still miss her and get tears in my eyes when I think about her and talk about her. I still expect her to run and greet me when I come home. I would like to thank FPO for the opportunity to foster/adopt Josi and have her in my life. She was truly a wonderful and loving companion. When the time comes that I am ready to adopt a new “best friend,” I will certainly contact FPO.
Thank you. Rees Family |

July 2011 |
Ben was adopted in 2004. On July 28 we took Ben to the University of Illinois to see a specialist for laryngeal paralysis surgery. During the pre-surgical work up, they discovered cancer on his spleen and in his lungs. They only gave him a couple of weeks to live and he was clearly unhappy, so we made the hard decision to put him down.
My wife Synthia and I want to thank you again for everything you do. Ben made a huge impact in our lives and he is greatly missed. He was 100lbs of unconditional, slobbery love. All the best,
Eric |
